Welcome to Zermatt

Zermatt lies in the Valais Alps of southern Switzerland, at 1600m above sea level, by train just over 3 hours from both Zurich and Geneva. Nestled in a deep valley, the skyline is dominated by the majestic pyramid of the Matterhorn mountain. A ring of mountains over 4000 metres high encircle Zermatt, and the village is just a few kilometres from the Italian border.

Our mountain village is one of the great ski and climbing centres of the world. Over 300 kilometres of ski runs include slopes ranging from simple to challenging, and an extensive network of trains, cableways, mountain railways and ski lifts provide easy access. Our resort has a long season well into April – but you can ski here year-round!

We love the relaxed European lifestyle - combining outdoor activity, good food (long lunches!) and an animated afternoon/night life.

Zermatt offers some of the most extensive skiing of the Alps but still remains unspoiled. Our skiing visitors are offered plenty of choice. There is skiing everywhere, and literally for everyone. We have great runs, lengthy seasons, dramatic scenery and plenty of diverse terrain. Zermatt skiing is divided into a number of areas, each with its own selection and personality.

You can ski, snowboard, telemark, cross country ski, heli-ski, ski tour, toboggan, sled, snowshoe, hike, ice skate, ice climb, sleigh ride, paraglide, ride off-piste, be glacier-guided...

You can cruise to Italy, you can cruise year-round, you can cruise off-piste... and if you don’t want to cruise on the snow, there is plenty else to see and do.

There are facilities for bowling, cinema, swimming, hot tubs, jacuzzis, massage, indoor tennis, fitness centres, climbing wall, table football...

Or you can go shopping. Or eating...
